This unparalleled check verification service, provides online, real-time access to positive and negative account information, as well as, check level status. The service identifies items at the point-of-sale which assists in the elimination of potential fraud and reduces the likelihood of returning unpaid items. Our system is designed to position businesses to protect themselves from costly financial loss, by strengthening and protecting their ability to identify possible fraudulent transactions while conducting good business.
By now, you’ve been to many different web-sites offering check verification services. You have probably figured out that most of these companies seem to be offering the same thing just under a different name. You’re right. Why? Banking regulations will only allow a certain amount of data to be released on any given account. Thus we’re all limited to the same data provided by financial institutions and database providers. That’s the bad news. The good news is twofold.
- There is a difference in what can be done with the data provided thus giving you more pertinent information on any given account.
- There is a higher level of data and enhanced account information that is virtually going unnoticed and unaddressed by most providers. In the end, because of costs and time constraints, they choose not to offer these enhancements.....until now.
We have partnered with a network of providers that have developed a way to offer this complete service at transaction costs equal to those of other check verification providers with lesser services. The best way to illustrate the difference is a direct comparison of services that everyone else offers compared to what we can provide.
Real-time Account Status Information
Who offers this? |
Everyone. |
What they offer: |
They provide you with a generic accept or decline message based on the current account status as of the opening of that banking day. Most major banks provide data for this service. This is the highest level of information that can be provided based current banking regulations and law. |
What we offer: |
Everything they do plus when we decline a check we provide you with the reason behind why we declined it. Decline reasons include....
- Account Closed
- Stop Payment
- The account is currently in an NSF balance
- Non DDA Account
- Invalid Account Number
- Invalid Routing Number
- The account doesn’t exist
- Stolen/Forged/Fraud
|
Why is this important? |
The more information the merchant has, the better its ability to make decisions. For example, some merchants will do business with a customer whose account is currently in an NSF status because all they care about is knowing whether or not the account is an open and valid. By providing the merchant with these detailed responses, it enables the merchant to make informed decisions on a customer by customer basis. |
National Check Networks (NCN) Negative Database
Who offers this? |
Everyone. |
What they offer: |
When a merchant pings the database they receive an accept or decline. The decline is just that, a decline. No further information is provided. The database is created by participating merchants and collection agencies based on dishonored checks that were presented to them. |
What we offer: |
Everything they do, plus, when we decline, we provide you with the reason why. Declined reasons include.....
- Negative Data – Information was found in the NCN Negative database. Typically this is because of NSF activity.
- Closed Account – Bank Stop: Bank has stopped the account.
- Stolen/Forged/Fraud – Someone has reported that checks with this account have been stolen or forged.
- Customer Stop – The account owner has requested that transactions on this account be stopped. This is likely because the checks have been lost or stolen.
- Merchant Stop – The merchant has requested that all checks with this account be stopped.
|
Why is this important? |
Finding out exactly why a check is in a negative database is extremely
important. If you’re in an industry where your clientele is subprime, they will probably have checks present in the negative database. In reality, what is really important is whether they have truly fraudulent items out in the market. |
Fraud Data Supplied by Financial Institutions
Who offers this? |
No one to our knowledge |
What we offer: |
Every week our provider receives updates from financial institutions on accounts that are reported as fraud. |
Why is this important? |
Financial institutions are the first to know when account fraud is present. |
Real-time Account Information
Who offers this? |
A few. |
What they offer: |
They provide you with a “yes” or “no” response on whether or not there is enough money in the account at that time for the check to clear. |
What we offer: |
The same thing. |
Why is this important? |
Unfortunately there are only three small banks that provide this information and that list hasn’t grown in the past three years. Providers will claim more are coming online, but they’ve been claiming that for 3 years. The bottom line is less than 1% of the checks you take will be able to be verified using this service and it’s difficult to build a business case around it. If any provider tells you anything different, it’s just not true. |
Additional Data We Provide
- Information on invalid account numbers
- Information on invalid routing numbers
- Duplicate check number information
- Additional internal fraud notifications based on our own databases.
- And more!
The differences are staggering. When it comes to check verification, the most critical component is the level of detail being delivered to the merchant. It’s an indisputable fact that our partner service providers deliver more comprehensive check data than any other provider in the market. We also provide you detailed reporting and multiple ways to receive the data – Virtual Terminal, Batch, and Real-time connections.

What Does It Cost?
This 4-Level check verification service will pay for itself the first time it shields you from accepting a bad check. Because this service is provided by an outside service provider, there are additional monthly/verification fees involved in addition to the normal annual fees you are paying for your Vcheck/Checkbind account.
Monthly Fee: Once approved and issued your verification merchantID, username and password, there is a $12.00 monthly gateway fee to have 24/7 access to the service. As mentioned above, every Vcheck that is created through your account will be automatically verified and the Virtual Terminal allows you to verify any check that comes into your business.
Per Verification Fee: In addition to the monthly gateway fee, each verification cost .32 (32 cents). This includes the full 4-level verification.
While the service has been fully integrated into the Vcheck system, the monthly gateway and verification fees will be charged to you directly by the service provider.
